This world – a deadly jungle

Defenceless men, women and children are the victims of laws and practices that lack a human face or humanity.

Are these people not human beings deserving respect and a decent life?

Many laws and practices are in for a thorough revision or a complete replacement.

At the French city of Calais,
a camp for migrants was cleared some years ago.
It was called “the jungle”.

Hundreds of migrants from
many countries called it their home.

They lived there in very poor conditions
in tents made of anything possible.

They were waiting for someone to help them
to find a way to a better life.
Most of them fled their country
because they had political problems
or for economic reasons.

Many cannot go back to where
they come from anymore.
Going back might mean death.

The pictures of the clearing of the camp
were unworthy of any society calling itself
civilized and humanity-driven.

Why do people have to suffer so much?
Because this world is still a jungle for
a large part of its people around the globe.

Defenceless men, women and children
are the victims of laws and practices
that lack a human face or humanity.
Are these people not human beings
deserving respect and a decent life?

Many laws and practices are in for
a thorough revision or a complete replacement.
Many are based on superiority deriving
from status – social, political or economic.
Many are based on superiority deriving
from the religion people belong to.

Is it not time that our leaders replaced
laws and practices discriminating people
on the basis of cosmically immature beliefs?
And to replace them with laws and practices based
on the maximum application of human values?

Too often, money guides our leaders,
making them forget the true needs
of people and of Nature as well.

This world has been a jungle for too long.
Too many people have been victims
of political, economic, social… immature policies.
Or of violence based on religious antagonism.

This world needs to clear the jungle
and make it into a home for everybody.

Human values are the best clearing tool.
And the common ground all leaders
should build the world’s future on.
