LETTERS : NEW TO OLD

Letter to WEF at Davos

Letter to WEF at Davos

Every year, Davos in Switzerland is the place to be for world leaders from many countries. The meetings held there mainly relate to the “state of the world”. But nothing really changes because the main starting point is how to keep capitalism working for part of the world’s population. If we want to really change this world and make every person be treated as a human being in whatever country, capitalism needs to be reformed or replaced.
Unity in diversity

Unity in diversity

There are so many races and so many cultural, political, economic and religious differences. Yet every human being is a mixture of many races. Races that have been influenced by other cultures, religions, political and economic systems throughout the centuries… Nonetheless, all people have something in common and that is the key to a better world for everyone.
World upside down - war and dialogue

World upside down – war and dialogue

Billions are still invested in new weapons that are even more lethal than before.  Why not invest more in war prevention and conflict resolution?
This world - a deadly jungle

This world – a deadly jungle

Defenceless men, women and children are the victims of laws and practices that lack a human face or humanity. Are these people not human beings deserving respect and a decent life? Many laws and practices are in for a thorough revision or a complete replacement.
God bless us all

God bless us all

Some people ask God to bless them. Or their group or their country. But the request often implies that other people or countries will suffer. Or that Nature will be maltreated.
Basta! War mentality should stop

Basta! War mentality should stop

When are most of our leaders finally going to realize that they belong to the wrong family? The “war family” has been damaging our planet for ages. Through violence of all sorts it has dominated the “peace family”. It has caused the destruction of millions of lives and of billions worth of Nature and infrastructure. Time to change mentality and to transform Earth into the home for all instead of into the home for a few – foreseeably having to fear that home might be destroyed as well.
Believe in yourself

Believe in yourself

I’m drowning! Not in water. I’m drowning in an overdose of information. Every day I’m flooded with messages that want me to buy new products. Products that are said to be better and fantastic.
Pay where you earn - be honest

Pay where you earn – be honest

Some companies shift their profits from the countries where they make those profits, to countries where they pay no or few taxes. This gives them an unfair and illegal (exactly!) advantage over their competitors who do pay taxes. Why cannot countries join forces and impose a joint fair tax system on all companies? In the end it would benefit all of them.
Avoiding taxes

Avoiding taxes

Legal ways to evade/avoid taxes? Legal may be legal for some people or for some groups of people or in some countries, but totally inconsistent with what should be the “Global Peace Charter”.
How to get rich

How to get rich

Making a profit is fine, but making a fortune by having your products made by underpaid workers in countries with no or hardly any labour or environmental laws is nothing to look up to. Misleading investors and consumers is not either.
Dharshie Wissah Water Scarcity

Billions lost

Dharshie Wissah from Kakamega in Kenya took this picture and won the 2019 CIWEM environmental photographer of the year prize (category: water, equality and sustainability). It is a shocking image for most people around the world. The picture shows a young boy drinking dirty water due to the lack of water points in the area caused by deforestation. Lack of clean water greatly increases the risk of diarrhoeal diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever and dysentery, and other water-borne tropical diseases.
Open letter to pharma companies

Open letter to pharma companies

A lot of medicines have serious side-effects. Side-effects that can change your life forever. The pharma industry is a multi-billion business. Cannot more care be taken to reduce the side-effects of medicines? Are financial results really that important? Should patients not always be the absolute priority? Our mother took a medicine and after few days she had some 13 side-effects and had to be taken to hospital for several weeks. She never fully recovered.
