7.7.7 or Saturday, July 7, 2007 is to become a global day of peace and non-violence. A day where the focus is on peace and on ways to combat violence. It will be held in the squares of all capitals and major cities world-wide as from 14:00.

The weeks before it, violence in all its aspects (personal, social, political, economic, religious…) will be covered in the media world-wide. Likewise, peace in all its facets will be highlighted.

There is simply too much violence in our lives and in the world. Already as a child we get used to seeing violence every day. Most of it on TV, but it is near and it can hit us or our families anytime. Why?

Our cities are becoming violent with robberies, carjackings, murders… Several countries are torn by destructive wars. Members of different religious factions attack each other horribly. So many instances of violence related to race, culture and religion. Every day. Every hour. The overall result: thousands of innocent people get killed, mutilated or traumatized for life. Life seems to be worth so little. Yet, it is so precious.

Why are still so many people using force and violence? Why are they not restrained? Do they not have the right principles? Did they not learn the right principles? Why?

Pax Fides (stands for peace on faith and trust in yourself, people and – if you want – God) is drawing up a penetrating anatomy of violence and of peace proposing ways to reduce violence and to increase peace world-wide. It will deal with aspects related to psychology, sociology, politics, economics, religion… It will draw upon examples where violence gave way to dialogue and peace.

7.7.7 is to become a day where the world realizes that peace is the only option.

On 7.7.7, in all capitals and major cities in the world, pax fides demonstrations for peace and non-violence will be held. Take part and ask your friends to do the same.

Send them to your local peace organizations and to the media and ask to cover the event.
