Leaders across the world blame others and each other for the problems in their countries or in the world at large.
But is there any leader totally free of any blame? Not really. They should all realize they are the product of their education, their environment, their culture, their religion… and they should dare to question the knowledge they have acquired and on which they base their decisions.
Why are there so many – conflicting – differences of opinion? Are leaders seeing the forest for the trees or are they losing themselves in details? What is the real essence of it all?
This world is indeed complicated in many aspects: politics, economics, society, religion… But does it need to be so complicated? Can it not be made more simple to reduce tensions and conflicts? Is there no common ground to work on constructively and together?
This world is definitely going in the wrong direction. Almost everybody feels that Humankind urgently needs to change the way it treats Nature as its very existence depends on it. Yet, most leaders carry on business as usual. Yes, indeed, business and money remain the number one priority.
Why do some countries still need to wage wars? Why do some insist on developing and having nuclear weapons?
Why do some political parties still need to fight opponents with weapons or oppression?
Why does half of the world’s population still live in misery and poverty?
Why does Nature have to suffer so much as to threaten Humankind’s own survival?
Why does the world find billions of dollars to save the banks and financial system, while not having the courage and foresight to act drastically against poverty or social injustice and Nature degradation?
Why do some people still fight and kill in the name of religion?
Even though people speak the same language, such as English, they cannot often fully communicate with each other. Language is only part of the communication process. The ideas expressed in language may sound the same when heard in words, but still be quite different as they originated in different educational systems. In different political, economic, cultural and religious environments.
Why cannot political, economic and religious leaders world-wide see the world and its problems through the same type of spectacles? The spectacles of universal peace. Why cannot they learn to speak the same language of Peace and work together towards saving Nature and thus Humankind?
Peace is maybe difficult to define? We defined it as the respect of universal human values, such as justice, respect for people, respect for Nature, charity, solidarity, neutrality, tolerance, openness, truthfulness, honesty, non-violence, equality and humility.
Any action or decision taken and not in conformity with these human values should be questioned and redefined so as to meet them. The world would gradually become more truly peace-minded and many differences would come to be seen as non-essential.
Peace and human values should be promoted in all countries through education, the media and for those that believe through religion so as to produce a kind of leaders that do indeed understand each other.
A new kind of world could be constructed on the common ground of peace.
Danellandia Peace Foundation
